Say what?

A possible NBA trade, reportedly being discussed right now, which would fundamentally change the look of both the Eastern & Western Conferences … this season, and for the foreseeable future.

  1. Raps Fan Says:

great trade for the pistons. they shake things up, and get massive cap relief at the end of the year. chances are the nuggets release mcdeyess, and he resigns with the pistons after a month or so. dumars strikes again.

  2. bukkaboom Says:

I think it makes the Pistons “must watch” TV that’s for sure. Think about the intensity out there with AI & Sheed. I’m curious as hell to see how this plays out once they all get comfortable with each other. See what you have to look forward to when you’re a Hawks fan?

BTW — I didn’t even know McDyess was still playing. Time to go home AM, unless you can invent some mad training skills to keep you mobile: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZEB9a6boK3A

  3. khandor Says:

    Raps Fan,

    Definitely an interesting trade, IMO.

Time will tell into what specific ‘category’ … e.g. great, or otherwise … it falls, down-the-road apiece.

    ———————

IMO … there are potential advantages for BOTH sides that have yet to be explored fully,

    re: Denver

e.g. Imagine if McDyess was to stay with the Nuggets, and they also get C-Samb …

Is this now the type of roster it will take to get Denver into the playoffs this season in the WC?

Billups, JR Smith, Carmelo Anthony, Kenyon Martin, Nene

Chucky Atkins, Anthony Carter, Dahntay Jones, Sonny Weems, Linas Kleiza, Renaldo Balkman, Antonio McDyess, Juwan Howard, Chris Anderson, Steven Hunter & Cheikh Samb

    re: Detroit

e.g. Where is Iverson going to play in the Pistons’ line-up?

STARTERS: AI, Rip, Tayshaun, Amir, Sheed

BENCH: Stuckey, Afflalo, Herrmann, Maxiell, Brown

    RESERVES: Bynum, Acker, Sharpe

    – once the Pistons re-upped Maxiell, it made sense for Dumars to move one of the Bigs on their roster
    – can Maxiell (and, possibly, a raw rookie like Walter Sharpe) develop into the offensive Big they’ll need to replace the Diceman?

Not to mention … what if, McDyess is eventually returned to the Pistons?

    ——————————

There are a lot of different angles to this specific trade, including,

e.g. IMO … it is yet another move which was influenced by the Lakers’ juggernaut this season, whereby every team in the League [save the Celtics & the Rockets] is now looking squarely at 2nd Place, behind ‘The Boyz from Lalaland’!

  4. khandor Says:

    bukkaboom,

    Welcome aboard! 🙂

  5. Raps Fan Says:

agreed, im super interested to see this play out. both teams get something they need:

denver: point guard, move smith into starting lineup, another big man (for now)

detroit: shake up of the lineup, stuckey gets more minutes at point, huge cap relief in the offseason.

  6. Travis Outlaw Says:

    Khandor,
THE PISTONS ARE FALLING APART. 🙂 Dumar’s losing it. Losing MR BIG SHOT is big time. NO CHAMPIONSHIP!!! AI is not point guard. The answer is a curse. Stuckey is not ready.

AI, Rip, Tayshaun, Amir, Sheed (AI and Sheed yuck) All they need now is a Larry Brown reunion.

Good trade for Denver. Finally, get a point guard MR BIG SHOT for nothing (since AI was going to leave anyways). But the Nuggets are still far from CHAMPIONSHIP CONTENDERS.

    SAMB’S A BUST (DUMARS MISTAKE):)

    ROTFLOL 😉

Does AI make the Pistons 08-09 CHAMPS? ROTFLOL 😉

    FROM FLUXLAND,
Sorry Travis. I don’t play the “might” “sort of” “if maybe and but… candy and nuts” game. Simple fact is .. when one looks at this team on paper, it’s going nowhere. Winning a conference means nothing.. ask the Lakers. Te regular season means nothing. This whole game is about the playoffs (ask the Mavericks) and winning a ring. No one cares about who came in second. “two is not a winner and 3 nobody remembers” If you want to celebrate regular season accomplishments, be my guest, but you shouldn’t expect everyone else to take pleasure out of the same things you do, while in the process calling them haters. Very narrow minded, IMO.
-WINNING CHAMPIONSHIPS IS EVERYTHING RIGHT? 🙂

    Travis,

    1. If you could please learn how to separate the quotes you insert into your comments … for example, by using dots and italics … it would help others to understand what you’re trying to say.

    2. If you’ve read what I’ve written, thus far, about the eventual winner of this year’s NBA championship … you should know already that the LA Lakers are, by far, the favourites to win it all.

IMO, dealing Billups, McDyess & Samb for Iverson doesn’t mean the Pistons are going to win the title this year.

LA is simply too good. 🙂

    3. Most NBA observers I’ve read so far think that this trade further cements Joe D.’s rep as perhaps the best GM in the NBA today. 😉

  10. FLUXLAND Says:

“Winning (Championships) is not everything.. it’s the only thing” Again, if you like teams like the Pistons/ Atlanta Braves/ Buffalo Bills/ Lakers of old.. that always came up short, be my guest.

-UMMMMM CAN’T YOU READ? I didn’t write anything about the Lakers. 🙂 Your assuming stuff now. Plus can’t you even recognize the quotes?

I wrote Does AI make the Pistons 08-09 CHAMPS? ROTFLOL 😉
    – ROTFLOL = NO 🙂
AND BECAUSE ROTFLOL = NO means DUMARS HAS DONE A BAD JOB.
Do you understand? 🙂 I’m questioning your intelligence now.

    WINNING CHAMPIONSHIPS IS EVERYTHING RIGHT
    RIGHT FLUXLAND?

  12. Travis Outlaw Says:

    FLUXLAND,
    WINNING CHAMPIONSHIPS IS EVERYTHING
RIGHT FLUXLAND? is not directed at you. It is directed to Khandor.

“Winning (Championships) is not everything.. it’s the only thing” Again, if you like teams like the Pistons/ Atlanta Braves/ Buffalo Bills/ Lakers of old.. that always came up short, be my guest.
-Khandor can tell you how wrong you are with this statment. DONT YOU TWO GENIUSES SEE BOTH YOUR STATEMENTS CONTRADICT EACH OTHERS?

    FLUXLAND,
Khandor once said something like this: The Pistons have one championship but also a finals appearance and at least 4 eastern conference finals trip after. Does this make the Pistons less of a team? Than lets say the 07-08 CELTICS Champions.

  13. khandor Says:

    Travis,

    Free Advice:

In general, it is not a good idea to be questioning the intelligence of the person whose blog you happen to be writing on … at least, if you intend to leave more comments there and have them published. 😉

    ———————————————-

I didn’t mention the Lakers in my reply because you said something about the Lakers in your comment.

It is you who is making an assumption there.

I mentioned the Lakers because you asked me if I thought the Pistons were going to win the NBA championship now that they’ve acquired Allen Iverson … and the strength of this year’s Lakers team is simply part of my answer to that question.

If you could not deduce that from what I wrote there, please accept my apologies for that. I should not have assumed you were that intelligent. 😉

IMO, the Pistons are not substantially closer to winning the NBA championship this season with AI on their roster than they were without him, as the LA Lakers are still the best team in the League this year and will win 70+ plus regular season games & the 10th title of Phil Jackson’s career as an NBA head coach.

You see … in that specific regard, it makes no difference whatsoever what Joe D. does with the Pistons’ roster this season.

That’s ‘The Answer’ to the question YOU asked me.

    ——————————————————–
re: Does this make the Pistons less of a team? Than lets say the 07-08 CELTICS Champions
    ——————————————————–

By “less of a team” you mean what exactly?

The Pistons under Joe D. and the Celtics under Danny Ainge each have 1 NBA title to their credit now.

However, because of the length of the Pistons’ run at/near the top of the EC, in comparison to the Celtics’ reign, which has just begun … Detroit/Dumars would have to get the edge, in my judgment … although last year’s Celtics squad was every bit as much of a ‘team’ as the Pistons were when they won it all, if not moreso.

  14. khandor Says:

    Travis,

re: your recent comments which have now been ‘removed’ from this blog

As I’ve told you before, on more than one occasion …

Fix this problem you have here and this privilege will be restored.

PS. As well, feel free to contact me directly via Email, in the interim. I have sent you an Email to which all you have to do is reply, if you’d like to discuss the situation further.

  15. Travis Outlaw Says:

Khandor, would you want me to repost it? Because I do not have the power to edit it.

  16. khandor Says:

    Travis,

Feel free to post new comments, if you’d like.

  17. Travis Outlaw Says:

I meant my comments awaiting in moderation. Do you want me to redo them? By italics and lines.

  18. khandor Says:

    Travis,

If you a copy of them yourself, you can use italics and dotted lines.

In my book, that method works just fine.

If not that method, then feel free to use something else; whatever you can do, as a non-fancy person, that will separate out your writing from someone else’s words you are quoting/referencing in your comment.

I don’t care what method you choose to use [e.g. bold], as long as it works and is clear to understand.

    ============================

If you don’t have a copy of the prior comments then you will need to make new ones which are clear to understand.

The choice is up to you.

    1. RE: (QUOTE) I didn’t mention the Lakers in my reply because you said something about the Lakers in your comment. It is you who is making an assumption there.
    ————————————————————————————–
    – ??????? How am I making assumptions? I never mentioned the Lakers in any post. Your the one that started talking about the Lakers. PLEASE READ MORE CAREFULLY 🙂

    ———————————————————————————–
    2. RE: (MY OWN QUOTE) Does AI make the Pistons 08-09 CHAMPS? ROTFLOL 😉
    ————————————————————————————–
-I wrote this meaning. No I do not believe the Pistons will win a championship. As I believe the Pistons are going to be rebuilding soon thus breaking apart. I NEVER even asked you if the Pistons are to win a championship?

    ———————————————————————————–
    3. RE: (QUOTE)I should not have assumed you were that intelligent. 😉
    ————————————————————————————
YOUR ASSUMING STUFF I SAID WHEN I NEVER ASKED.

    ———————————————————————————-
    4. RE: (QUOTE) Does this make the Pistons less of a team? Than lets say the 07-08 CELTICS Champions
    ———————————————————————————-
-Why answer this question? 🙂 This is meant for FLUXLAND because he wrote championships are everything ^. READ MORE CAREFULLY. Also I am praising the Pistons and Joe Dumars because of their consecutive trips to the Eastern Conference. A point you made once to me.

    ————————————————————————————–
    5. RE: (QUOTE) the LA Lakers are still the best team in the League this year and WILL win 70+ plus regular season games & the 10th title of Phil Jackson’s career as an NBA head coach.

-WOW WOW WOW BOLD BOLD STATEMENTS

-(Is this to your liking? I hope you can read it this time. 🙂 )

  20. Travis Outlaw Says:

    Khandor-
As that was my previous post you deleted.

There are still many points I would like to make:
    1. I believe Joe Dumars is one of the best GM’s in the NBA. I’m more contradicting your statements when I say that stuff.

    2. Championships though should mean a lot FLUXLAND once said. Than let’s say 4 consecutive trips to the Eastern Conference Finals. LOSERS SHOULDN”T BE REMEMBERED. (Though that just make Dumars even a better GM. )

    3. The Allen Iverson deal is a risky move for the Pistons. It energizes them. But at what cost? (Billups, Rip) are the sole reason for the success of the Pistons so far.

    4. I believe the Nuggets got the better end of the deal. A former finals MVP in Billups for AI whos is in the last year of his contract and can’t play with Melo.

    5. Its quite possible. AI and Sheed are gone next year. And a young piston team is a rebuilding team. No longer a championship team.

  21. khandor Says:

    Travis,

I don’t really know if that method is any better at all.

    That said:

I give you credit, in my book, for at least trying to do what was asked of you. That’s big, IMO. 😉

    —————————–

    1. I still have no idea what you are objecting to re: my explanation that the Lakers are the best team in the NBA this season and therefore my belief that this specific trade for Iverson by the Pistons will not change who it is that eventually wins the championship this year.

    2. IMO …

    i) +.500 regular season teams should be considered noteworthy.
ii) Teams that quality for the playoffs should be viewed at a level above that.
iii) Teams that advance in the Playoffs should be viewed at a level above that.
iv) Teams that advance to the Conference Finals should be viewed at a level above that.
    v) Teams that advance to the League Championship shoulde be viewed at a level above that.
vi) Teams that win the League Championship should be viewed at a level above that.
vii) Teams that achieve i), ii), iii), iv), v), or vi) on multiple occasions should be viewed at a level above those that do not.

    3. I agree … the Iverson trade is a move with some risk attached to it for the Pistons.

As the old saying goes, however:

“In order to win [the game] … first, you’ve got to play.”Anonymous

IMO … Joe D. has always been ‘a playa’ … and, if you know me at all, then, you know WITHOUT A SHADOW OF A DOUBT … what that means to me and the level of ULTIMATE R-E-S-P-E-C-T which I have for someone like THAT. 🙂 😉 🙂

    4. I think the Nuggets made a good trade for their franchise.

    5. As I said before … I don’t think the Pistons are better than the Lakers this year. Period. Next year, either … as long as the Lakeshow stay together and avoid injuries.
