TRICK or Treat – Game Review: Raptors vs Warriors [Oct 31]

FINAL SCORE: Raptors 112, Warriors 108 [OT]
Game Info

—————————

TREAT[S]

* Chris Bosh’s play, on offense, coming down the stretch [in the 4th Q & OT]
* Exploited the Andrea Bargnani vs Brandon Wright mis-match
* Solid efforts by Jose Calderon & Anthony Parker who held their own in some very tough match-ups, notably, vs Stephen Jackson & Corey Maggette

TRICK[S]
* Lost the Rebounding Differential by a wide margin for the 2nd consecutive game [TOR 36, Gsw 46]

KEY POSSESSION OUTCOME[S]
* 00:29.3 of the 4th Q, TOR 92, Gsw 93 … when CB4 was isolated on the right wing vs Andre Biedrins and drove baseline for a dunk, while Al Harrington failed to execute his defensive assignment properly … which was to double-team Bosh, as Biedrins forced him to his right-hand drive, in order to create a Pass-out situation and a designated defensive rotation, that never happened, as a result … TOR 94, Gsw 93
* 00:14.5 of the 4th Q, TOR 94, Gsw 96 … when CB4 was isolated vs Stephen Jackson at the FT Line, was able to drive & spin into the lane, get fouled and made 2 clutch FT’s … TOR 96, Gsw 96
* 00:2.5 of the 4th Q, with the score tied … when Corey Maggette was isolated at the Top Of The Key, drove into the lane and was tripped by Jamario Moon, with no foul called & the resulting Turnover … TOR 96, Gsw 96

—————————

Despite solid contributions from Bosh, Bargnani, Calderon & Parker, and playing just well enough, as a group, to win their home opener … moving them to 2-0 … if the Raptors continue to put together deficient Rebounding Differentials, like this:

1st Q – TOR 21 Pts, 6 Rebs; Gsw 17 Pts, 10 Rebs – TOR/+4, -4
2nd Q – TOR 30 Pts, 8 Rebs; Gsw 33 Pts, 13 Rebs – TOR/-3, -5
3rd Q – TOR 26 Pts, 11 Rebs; Gsw 25 Pts, 8 Rebs – TOR/+1, +3
4th Q + OT – TOR 35 Pts, 12 Rebs; Gsw 35 Pts, 16 Rebs – TOR/0, -4

they are not going to be an Elite Level Team in the Eastern Conference this season, considering that the Warriors played without their starting PG, Monta Ellis, and are probably going to finish in the lower third of the Western Conference.

  1. FLUXLAND Says:

Those rebounding numbers are ALARMING.. to say the least. But JO was brought in to make us a rebounding powerhouse, right? ; ) Yes, I really get a Rodman feeling watching him.

  2. Travis Outlaw Says:

    – Khandor,
Your a Raptor hater. The Warriors almost beat the Hornets 103-106. Does this mean the Hornets are not going to be a Elite Level Team in the Western Conference. And the Warriors played without Monta Ellis too. This was just one game. Just admit that you have been wrong so far about the Raptors and that the Raptors look pretty good right now. 🙂

What do you think about Jermaine O’Neal’s first game? 🙂 17 pts over Elton Brand.

  3. FLUXLAND Says:

Travis, I do no agree.. the Raptors do no look good at all. You are like the guy at the bar with beer goggles on, looking at girl from afar and thinking she’s hot, only to walk closer and realize she’s a hog.

Just think of the beer as Raptors Kool Aid (TM Khandor) – provided by BC and JO:

Look at the box scores and “see” what’s really going on.

  4. Travis Outlaw Says:

    FLUXLAND,
YOU GUYS ARE RAP HATERS!!! The Raptors are still 3-0. The Lakers are also 3-0 there must be something wrong with them too. 🙂

  5. FLUXLAND Says:

Travis, I’m not speaking for Khandor (although I suspect the same) but, I am not a hater at all. Just being realistic and not getting my hopes up.

The regular season means nothing… you know that! And I don’t think this Rap team goes far in the post-season.

re: Lakers… can you see my avatar? 😉 And you are not seriously comparing the Lakers to the Raps, are you?!

  6. Travis Outlaw Says:

re: Lakers… can you see my avatar? 😉 And you are not seriously comparing the Lakers to the Raps, are you?!
-I’m not comparing. Just saying be happy the Raptors are 3-0 for now. O’Neal had 11 points last game.

  7. FLUXLAND Says:

It read like you were. Point is, just because 2 teams are 3-0, it does not mean both have the same make-up or are destined for the same end result. I’m glad the Raps are not 0-3, but I believe that record it somewhat deceiving. Kinda like an used car. Sure the paint and body look good, but there is a big ol mess going on under the hood, and rest assured it drives rough as heck – the Raps didn’t put the smackdown on anyone to get to 3-0, they barely pulled out those wins.

  8. khandor Says:

    Travis,

    ————–

    Your logic is simply flawed.

    To wit:

    i) I love my wife.
ii) My wife is a woman.
iii) Therefore, I must love all women.

    ROTFLOL. 🙂

Thinking like THAT doesn’t fly in this neck of the woods/blogosphere. 😉

    ——————————————————–

The Hornets are good enough to be an Elite Level Team in the WC this season.

So are the Lakers … in a HUGE way!

However, based upon what I’ve seen from the Raptors, thus far … and despite being 3-0, right now … they are not, and neither are the Warriors.

    ——————————————————–

Now … anyone who takes the time to read everything I’ve written on-line [both, here and elsewhere], thus far, would know already that I think the Raptors have some truly HIGH END parts on their team …

i.e. Chris Bosh & Jose Calderon

with some highly serviceable supporting players …

e.g. Anthony Parker, Jamario Moon, Joey Graham, Jason Kapono, Kris Humphries & Andrea Bargnani

with a few solid looking new additions …

i.e. Roko Ukic & Will Solomon

who, if they are used properly this season, are quite capable of putting up a 50 win season in the Eastern Conference [doesn’t mean they will, but, IMO, the capacity is certainly there this season] …

and, who … if they had just held onto Rasho Nesterovic, Jorge Garbajosa & Carlos Delfino, when they decided to trade TJ Ford [who SHOULD have been moved in a 1-for-1 transaction this summer and not in a blockbuster involving multiple players & draft picks for an injured former all-star, i.e. Jermaine O’Neal] … actually had the type of team/player roster that is NECESSARY to WIN A 1ST ROUND PLAYOFF SERIES THIS SEASON, and

set their franchise up for an extended run in the upper echelon of the Easter Conference for years to come.

Alas … this is not what the Raptors’ basketball brain-trust decided to do.

    ——————————————————–

IMO, it is going to be an interesting season ahead, in Raptorville.

    3-0 is a great start!

Hopefully they can keep it going. 🙂

-The Warriors almost beat the Hornets 103-106 in a close game without Monta Ellis. Please understand what you are saying here. You are saying the Raptors who won against the Warriors in a close game are not going to be a Elite Level Team. This is nothing but RAP hatred. 🙂 Why not say the Hornets are not going to be a Elite Level Team because they almost lost to the Warriors too. Just bause the Raptors didn’t blowout the Warriors without Monta Ellis doesn’t mean they are not going to be a Elite Level Team in the East.

re: YOU GUYS ARE RAP HATERS!!! The Raptors are still 3-0. The Lakers are also 3-0 there must be something wrong with them too.
-I am not comparing the Raptors and the Lakers. But both are right now 3-0. Why criticize the Raps and praise the Lakers? Especially after how the Lakers shot again Denver.

    Khandor,
If you love the Raptors please write something more positive about them. 🙂

PLEASE NOTE: Jermaine O’NEAL has played much better than you predicted. 🙂

and, who … if they had just held onto Rasho Nesterovic, Jorge Garbajosa & Carlos Delfino, when they decided to trade TJ Ford [who SHOULD have been moved in a 1-for-1 transaction this summer and not in a blockbuster involving multiple players & draft picks for an injured former all-star, i.e. Jermaine O’Neal] … actually had the type of team/player roster that is NECESSARY to WIN A 1ST ROUND PLAYOFF SERIES THIS SEASON, and

Alas … this is not what the Raptors’ basketball brain-trust decided to do.

-Again you are overhyping Rasho Nesterovic. So far O’Neal has played better than Nesterovic. And Jorge Garbajosa & Carlos Delfino went to Europe. So thats not the Raps problem.

Khandor is a HOME TEAM HATER!!!
And thinking like THAT doesn’t fly in this neck of the woods/blogosphere. 😉

  10. Travis Outlaw Says:

    FLUXLAND,
The Raptors won’t be better than the Lakers this year. But you never know? They might surprise everybody and win the east. Sorta like the lakeshow surpised last year.

  11. FLUXLAND Says:

Sorry Travis. I don’t play the “might” “sort of” “if maybe and but… candy and nuts” game. Simple fact is .. when one looks at this team on paper, it’s going nowhere. Winning a conference means nothing.. ask the Lakers. Te regular season means nothing. This whole game is about the playoffs (ask the Mavericks) and winning a ring. No one cares about who came in second. “two is not a winner and 3 nobody remembers” If you want to celebrate regular season accomplishments, be my guest, but you shouldn’t expect everyone else to take pleasure out of the same things you do, while in the process calling them haters. Very narrow minded, IMO.

  12. FLUXLAND Says:

It’s like this.. you and your buddy are walking down the street and see a hot girl. You are like: DAAAAAAAAYYYUMM and your tongue is hitting the floor, while your buddy says: Meeh, she’s OK. Does that make him a woman hater?
It’s completely possible two people look at the same thing and see two different things. It makes neither of them a hater. The predictions that some people make re:Raps could come completely 100% true to a tee.. and you would still call them a hater, simply because you have a different definition of the word “fan”. I suspect anything that doesn’t fit the “homer” definition, in your world, is a hater.

To each his own, I suppose, but notice no one is calling you a “homer”.

  13. khandor Says:

    Travis,

What were the Hornets’ Rebounding Numbers like in their Win at Golden State?

Were the Hornets playing at home or were they on the road?

How many players did the Hornets use in their rotation for that game?

What were the Hornets’ shooting percentages?

    What were the Hornets’ turnovers?

Were the Hornets trailing for the entire 4th quarter but for the last few seconds of regulation time [and then during the resulting OT]?

Did the Hornets benefit from a ‘poor’ [highly dubious?] no-call by an official at the end of their game vs Golden State?

In comparison to the Lakers, for example, who annihilate the Trail Blazers, then the Clippers and then just squeaked by a talented Nuggets team on the road, in the Mile High City, where running teams like this year’s Lakeshow typically run out of gas, given the altitude in Denver?

    ———————-

IMO … there is a lack of sophistication in your basketball analysis and comparison between the current levels of the performance amongst these three teams … i.e. the Raptors, Hornets & Lakers … which indicates to me that what I should do here is simply let you keep thinking exactly as you do now, which is what I’m about to do. 🙂

    ———————-

In general, what I do on-line is not designed to convince anyone that their opinion about the game is wrong or incorrect … so, please feel free to hold whatever opinion you wish to have about my ideas regarding the Raptors, the NBA, or basketball, in general.

If, in future, you would like to hear my opinion about a subject related to the game … feel free to let me know that.

    Til then … 😉

    Keep On Truck’n

-The Raptors are 3-0 give them some credit stop blasting them. Stop making excuses for the Lakers and kissing their buts. (Phil Jackson especially)
    U HOME TEAM HATER!!! 🙂

    Khandor,
I am only saying this because you have many specific posts critizing the Raptors.
    Many signs of RAP HATING:

    -Jermaine O’NEAL WARNING SIGN

-while Al Harrington failed to execute his defensive assignment properly … IN BOLD

-they are not going to be an Elite Level Team in the Eastern Conference this season, considering that the Warriors played without their starting PG, Monta Ellis, and are probably going to finish in the lower third of the Western Conference.

You question my basketball sophistication? https://khandorssportsblog.wordpress.com/2008/10/03/key-early-season-games-for-the-raptors/ Lets see how you do.

-Khandor you got this right buddy? 🙂 There are so many things wrong with this statement.

  16. Travis Outlaw Says:

It’s like this.. you and your buddy are walking down the street and see a hot girl. You are like: DAAAAAAAAYYYUMM and your tongue is hitting the floor, while your buddy says: Meeh, she’s OK. Does that make him a woman hater?

To each his own, I suppose, but notice no one is calling you a “homer”.

-What’s with HOT CHICK UGLY CHICK EXAMPLE? ARE YOU A RACIST 🙂 Khandor can tell you about that. 😉 This is offensive to women. Woman are human beings. NOT JUST HOT OR UGLY. PLEASE STOP USING THESE SEXIST EXAMPLES
Are you even a fan of the Raptors? ^ are examples of Many signs of RAP HATING.

  17. FLUXLAND Says:

That depends on your definition of “fan”. Question is .. why are you even asking, when you have labeled me a hater?

  18. khandor Says:

    Travis,

Here’s an example of what I’m talking about:

    ——————————————————-
re: Again you are overhyping Rasho Nesterovic. So far O’Neal has played better than Nesterovic.
    ——————————————————-

    Played better in what sense?

When the Raptors win a home game by 16 points versus the Boston Celtics … like the Pacers did over the weekend, with Rasho Nesterovic contributing like he did … and Jermaine O’Neal contributes to their W in a similar fashion, as to what Rasho did in that game … then, IMO, they’ll deserve a similar amount of praise from this corner for this summer’s transaction involving Nesterovic & O’Neal … which is to say, no praise at all from me, as I have yet to write anything at all on-line regarding the ‘quality’ of the victory Indiana just hung up on the defending World Champions.

IMO … it is primarily narrow-minded thinking individuals who read what I’ve written about the Raptors and perceive me to be a ‘Raptor Hater’.

Instead … what this perception does is reveal more about their frame of mind towards their own favourite team than it does about mine. 😉

  19. Travis Outlaw Says:

    From Khandor,
Human beings everywhere are so much more than just …

    what their nationality is, or
    what their citizenship is, or
what their ethnic origin/race is, or
what their skin pigmentation is, or
what their first language is, or
    what their sex is, or
what their sexual orientation is, or
    what their age is, or
    etc., etc., etc., …

Now, hopefully, you get this message, this time … and exclude these types of comments/claims/statements from your future contributions here.

    If so … that’s terrific. 🙂

If not … then, that’s simply too bad.

  20. FLUXLAND Says:

re: Rasho.. I wanted to say something about that earlier and even included stats, but changed my mind, since it was not directed at me. I would love to know how has JO played better then Rasho? Please spare me the “swagger” argument.

  21. FLUXLAND Says:

WOW!! You cannot be serious? Could you really miss the point by that much? Would have my example worked better for your had I used the word car instead of girl?

  22. FLUXLAND Says:

“NOT JUST HOT OR UGLY.” So, you are saying they in fact are that, but not only that? That, Sir, make you all the things you accused me of being.

  23. Travis Outlaw Says:

    FLUXLAND,
It’s like this.. you and your buddy are walking down the street and see a hot girl. You are like: DAAAAAAAAYYYUMM and your tongue is hitting the floor, while your buddy says: Meeh, she’s OK. Does that make him a woman hater?
-NAh you said that yourself bud.

re: Rasho.. I wanted to say something about that earlier and even included stats, but changed my mind, since it was not directed at me. I would love to know how has JO played better then Rasho? Please spare me the “swagger” argument.

    – The Raptors aren’t my favorite team. Why assume this? But I will choose to assume since you wrote about the Raptors a lot thats it yours. And you sir are a Raptor Hater!!!

    Haters criticize like this below.

    Many signs of RAP HATING:

    -Jermaine O’NEAL WARNING SIGN

-they are not going to be an Elite Level Team in the Eastern Conference this season, considering that the Warriors played without their starting PG, Monta Ellis, and are probably going to finish in the lower third of the Western Conference. their teams. Like you do:

    Exactly my Point!!! 🙂

  26. FLUXLAND Says:

Based on everything you have written thus far, I have no choice but to believe (and agree with Kha) that your analytical, argumentative and debating skills are not well-developed. It’s either that or you are doing this for lulz. Also love how you failed to comment at my 9:56 comment and failed to respond appropriately to the JO/Rasho comparison. You have, thus far, contributed nothing of value and I have learned nothing by reading what you copy/pasted.

  27. khandor Says:

    Travis,

    1. Try using ‘dots’ & ‘italics’ to separate the quotes in your comments.

    2. Your reading comprehension skills might need to improve, in order to understand my writing.

Instead … what this perception does is reveal more about their frame of mind towards their own favourite team than it does about mine.

    ——————————————————–

Nowhere in what I wrote there does it say that I think the Raptors are, in fact, your favourite team.

If that’s what you read those specific words to mean then … maybe, that is the source of your problem understanding what I’ve written about the Raptors, thus far. 🙂

    3. Your definition of what a ‘Hater’ is … verifies what I said before about a lack of sophistication in your basketball analysis.

If you think what I write about the Raptors qualifies as ‘hate’ then, I suggest it’s you who doesn’t know what the definition of that word means.

  28. Travis Outlaw Says:

    FLUXLAND,
Also love how you failed to comment at my 9:56 comment.
-Look ^ Do I need to write yes?

and failed to respond appropriately to the JO/Rasho comparison.
-Time will tell who’s better. 🙂
    Wait for Pacers third game.
But if you want stats right now?
    O’NEAL : 11.0 PPG, Rebounds 7.3, Blk 2.0
    Rasho: 8.0 PPG, Rebounds 4.5, Blk 1.5
    Who’s better?

  29. Travis Outlaw Says:

    1. Try using ‘dots’ & ‘italics’ to separate the quotes in your comments.
    2. Your reading comprehension skills might need to improve, in order to understand my writing.
    Khandor,
-If you can’t read it its your own fault. 🙂 I’m not the type that likes to get fancy.

Instead … what this perception does is reveal more about their frame of mind towards their own FAVOURITE TEAM than it does about mine.
    – What did you mean by this then? Maybe its my mistake. 🙂

    3. Your definition of what a ‘Hater’ is … verifies what I said before about a lack of sophistication in your basketball analysis.

If you think what I write about the Raptors qualifies as ‘hate’ then, I suggest it’s you who doesn’t know what the definition of that word means.
-GO READ DAVE’S BLOG. Or any sports article in ESPN, SPORTS ILLUSTRATED ETC. There is a huge difference.

They don’t contain many signs of RAP HATING ^
    YOU HOMETEAM (RAP) HATER!!!!!!!!!!!

  30. khandor Says:

    Travis,

re: -If you can’t read it its your own fault. I’m not the type that likes to get fancy.
    ————————————————-

Getting ‘fancy’ doesn’t have anything to do with it.

It’s connected with making what you write intelligle for others to read/parse on my blog.

You’re a guest here, as are others, and it makes it easier for them to tell the difference between what you’re trying to say for yourself and what you’ve cut & pasted from someone else’s words and interspersed at different points within your comment.

If you’re going to continue on here, you will need to figure out a way to do this which works for you and for others to understand easily … cause the way you’re doing it now, i.e. copying the words of others from an earlier comment into your comment and then following it with a ‘dash’ and that person’s name, then the rest of what you’re trying to say about that quote is too confusing.

Remember … not everyone is as smart as you are. 🙂

If you can’t find a better way of doing it … then, perhaps, this is not the best blog for you to contribute to.

Either way is fine by me … but doing it like you’ve done it so far is not an option which is going to fly here any longer.

    ——————————————————-

    2. It’s immaterial what your favourite team is.

What is material, though, is how you happen to feel about that team and what it is you feel is acceptable for a ‘true fan’ of that team to think and feel and say about that team, if they are not going to qualify as a ‘hater’ in your mind, based on what your personal definition of a ‘hater’ might be.

When you perceive ‘hate’ in what I’ve written about the Raptors then it means you are working from a very definition of that word than what I’m using.

And you know what? I have no intention of trying to change your mind, in that regard. You are free to consider what I’ve written here and elsewhere in whatever way you’d like; since that is your personal perogative. 😉

    ——————————————————–

    3. What I do and what I write is not like Dave’s blog; not at all.

If it was … then my name would be ‘Dave’.

It’s not though … is it?

It’s khandor … and I don’t write nor do I think exactly like Dave, or ESPN, or Sports Illustrated, or Yahoo Sports!, or anybody else you’d kindly care to mention from the sports blogosphere. 😉

I thoroughly enjoy reading Dave’s blog and contributing there, when it’s appropriate, IMO.

Hopefully this feeling is reciprocated by Dave. 🙂

Based on what he’s said to me, thus far, I think it might well be.

If the style of my blog, on the other hand, isn’t quite to YOUR liking … please don’t feel as though is a place to which you HAVE to come, on a regular basis, and contribute your ideas about the topics here.

If you’d prefer, instead, I/we can simply muddle through without you.

    Khandor,
I never said Dave’s blog is like yours or any blogs in the internet. I’m just saying your posts have bias. (Mostly hatred for the Raptors.) But of course you are free to think differently. While other blogs like Dave and ESPN don’t usually have. See the difference.

    Travis,

You are certainly free to think that my blog entries are biased against the Raptors.

I simply disagree with that perception … which is not an accurate one, IMO.
