And so it begins …

The LA Lakers (32-17) are about to begin their ascent in the Western Conference standings.

Despite injuries to Andrew Bynum (C, 7-0) and Trevor Ariza (F, 6-7), two of their key rotation players, the Lakers re-grouped nicely last night (W over Orlando), after stumbling against the Hawks on Wednesday, in their first back-to-back with Pau Gasol.

The upcoming schedule of games:

@ Miami (Feb 10)
@ Charlotte (Feb 11)
@ Minnesota (Feb 13)
All-Star Weekend (Feb 15-17)
@ Atlanta (Feb 19)

presents LA with the chance to reel off 5 consecutive wins (8 of their last 9) prior to their first ‘showdown in the desert’ vs Phoenix (Feb 20), since the arrival of Shaq.

Mark that date down, right now, on your calendar … 11 days hence … as the final day this season for the Suns to possess the ‘best record’ in the Western Conference.
