Secretariat is all alone …

The ‘Dead of Winter’ … and, this entry has absolutely nothing to do with cold, snow, ice, or anything else remotely connected to the season of ‘less-than-zero’ temps, but …

The Score Network (in Canada) is running a contest, right now, for viewers to select the single ‘Best Performance’ in the history of sport …

and this youtube clip just arrived from an old & dear friend, who (it seems) had nothing better to do today, at work, idlely passing time and, thinking back … back to the day, when …

My, Oh, My … what wonderful memories flooded back with a simple ‘Click’:

35 years later … it remains … to these eyes and ears the single Best Performance in the History of Sport!

“… Secretariat is widening now … he is moving like a ‘tremendous machine’ … Secretariat by 12 … Secretariat by 14 lengths, on the turn … (but) Secretariat is all alone …”

With a ‘tear’ in the eye & ‘chills’ down the spine … the good folks at The Score should only hope to ever be so wise.

PS … Inevitably, what comes to mind, as well, on occasions like this …

“Time it was and what a time it was
A time of innocence
A time of confidences
Long ago it must be
I have a photograph
Preserve your memories
They’re all that’s left you”
-Simon and Garfunkel, “Bookends”

Enjoy!
