Please recall …
This is a special team [May 30, 2008]
70+ Wins and the 2008-2009 NBA Championship was the forecast for this Lakers’ team PRIOR to their loss in the NBA Finals last season.

Offense, Defense & Rebounding … balanced and in harmony.

Lil’ early, don’t you think? Entirely possible.
Also, who DIDN”T predict the Lakers to at least go to the championship? It’s not like you picked out some sort of dark horse.

Matt,
Who else picked the Lakers to win 70+ games this season … back on May 30, 2008?

Matt,
Prior to the 2008 NBA Finals …
1. Who else picked the Boston Celtics to beat the Lakers?
and, then, simultaneously
2. Picked the Lakers to Win 70+ games in the 2008-2009 Regular Season AND the NBA Championship?
Who else did that?
… when the rest of the basketball world was, in fact, picking the Lakers to beat the Celtics immediately prior to the start of the NBA Finals last year.

There was only NBA Analyst … in the entire world … who did THAT, my friend.
Only one.

Btw …
‘Dark Horses’ that don’t come home with ‘the flowers’ around their necks, in general, are for chumps.
Where the real ‘money’ is to be made … in all of Life’s activities … is in identifying correctly where the eventual ‘chalk’ will be, prior to everybody else … and, THEN, having that ‘White Horse’ cross the finish line before ALL others.
That’s [Black] Magic, my friend … pure and simple, Magic.

Pistons will knock them off this Friday
That’s when Iverson will finally feel comfortable with his teammates and vice versa…
sigh

Ryan,
Without Stuckey playing at full throttle …
Stuckey leaves game early
the Pistons look dishevelled right now.

Yeah, that Celtics game was a real nail biter. As a diehard Pistons fan, I believe the Iverson trade should have not been made,
1- Defense will suffer
2- Lost our leader
3- Sheed is the complacent one of the bunch
4- Stuckey still needs that PG guidance
However, when AI does start to blend in and gel with the other guys, he makes Detroit more dangerous, but not better.

Ryan,
I agree with your take 100%.
How Sheed & Rip respond will be keys to their team right now, at least, until they can re-acquire Diceman, if he’s so-inclined.
Without Stuckey, though … I abhor the back-court combo of Bynum [as a starter?] + anybody else on their current roster.
Will Bynum is a solid 3rd-string PG … but other than that he brings nothing of value to the table, IMO.

re: this season
Problem for me is … I thought that they were a pretty darn good team as is, before the trade.
Not Laker-worthy but still very, very good.
re: next few years
No problem for me there … if Joe D. can use the A.I. money wisely.
Time will tell.

Looks like now … challenging times ahead for Michael Curry & Co.
